Service Description

Maybe your dog happily offers a paw but isn’t quite ready for the clippers. Maybe you’ve mastered the front feet on a scratchboard but those back nails and dewclaws are another story. Maybe nail trims were going well and something changed. Or maybe you just need some accountability, fresh ideas, and a little expert coaching to finally make progress. That’s exactly what this six-week class is for. Over six weeks, we’ll help you develop a nail-care plan that works for the individual dog in front of you. We’ll explore the whole nail-care toolbox, including traditional clipping and grinding, scratchboards, positioning and stationing behaviors, start buttons and consent, handling skills, creative solutions for those one or two impossible nails, and ways to make necessary nail care more predictable and less stressful. Each week you’ll have the opportunity for live coaching, troubleshooting, and individualized feedback from both Vivi and Mallory. We’ll help you figure out what’s working, what isn’t, and what your next training step should actually be. Over six weeks, we’ll work on: - Finding the nail-care methods that best fit you and your dog - Building comfortable paw handling and positioning - Clippers, grinders, scratchboards... and creative combinations of all three - Front nails, back nails, and those pesky dewclaws - Start buttons, predictability, and meaningful consent - Troubleshooting fear, frustration, avoidance, and training plateaus - Breaking big goals into realistic, achievable steps - Creating a sustainable nail-care routine you can actually maintain There is no expectation that every dog will finish the six weeks calmly lying on their side while you dremel every nail... That’s not what Care with Consent is about. Success might mean trimming all nails. It might mean your dog filing their own front nails while you work toward handling the back feet. It might mean getting one previously impossible dewclaw done with less stress. It might mean finally understanding why you’ve been stuck and leaving with a plan that makes sense. Come spend six weeks geeking out about dog toenails with us and make nail care a little easier for everyone involved.
